Storm Team 3: Hot & humid for the first week of summer

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Another hot and humid day today for the first official weekend of summer and Father’s Day. High temperatures reached the lower 90s this afternoon, while heat index values soared into the triple digits, so be sure to stay cool and hydrated if you’re continuing to spend time outdoors for the rest of the day.

A few stray showers and thunderstorms remain possible through the rest of the afternoon and evening, especially south of I-16. Coverage will be much lower than what we saw yesterday, and we’re not expecting any flooding concerns or severe weather.

The hot and humid pattern continues Monday with highs in the lower to middle 90s and another chance for stray afternoon and evening storms. Rain chances increase by a little Tuesday through Friday as a typical summertime pattern settles in across the region. High temperatures will remain in the 90s, with heat index values well into the triple digits each afternoon.

The bugs are going to continue to be around as well, so make sure along with the sunscreen, you have your bug spray!

Looking ahead to next weekend, it turns even hotter. With fewer storms around to provide relief, highs are expected to reach the middle 90s, while heat index values could approach or even exceed 110 degrees in some locations. Summer’s first full week will certainly feel the part.

The good news is that no severe weather is expected locally, and the Atlantic Basin remains quiet with no tropical development concerns at this time…
