NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Dangerous heat is settling over Southeast Louisiana this week, with heat index values climbing into the triple digits as high temperatures stick in the 90s.
Monday and Tuesday will be the hottest days of the week, with highs reaching the mid 90s and heat index values between 100 and 108 degrees.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for areas around Lake Pontchartrain, where the combination of heat and humidity will be most intense.
Rain chances stay low through the start of the week. Monday and Tuesday will remain dry, giving you a break from the frequent storms that have pounded the region recently. Some areas in Southeast Louisiana picked up as much as 15 inches of rain over the past week, while parts of South Mississippi saw up to 20 inches.
By Wednesday and Thursday, rain chances increase to around 30%, though widespread rain is not expected. A weakening system moving in from the northern Plains could bring scattered afternoon storms, particularly north of Interstate 10. Some of these storms could produce gusty winds…
