Father’s Day forecast: Severe storms and flash flood threat

Father’s Day will be unsettled with waves of rain and storms moving across the area from late morning through the evening hours. Storms will be capable of heavy rain with amounts in the 1″ to 3″ range with some isolated pockets of 3+ expected. This could lead to localized flash flooding.

This afternoon, as our atmosphere destabilizes, we could see some storms strengthen to severe levels with damaging winds and a few tornadoes the main concern. The window of opportunity for severe weather looks best from about noon to 6 p.m. The storms will exit this evening.

Monday will be mostly cloudy and cool for late June with highs not making it out of the 70s. We should see some clearing for the afternoon which will continue into the evening.

Tuesday will be a great day with highs in the low 80s and plenty of sunshine. Temperatures remain below normal for this time of year, but spotty storm chances may return as early as Wednesday with a better chance of spotty afternoon showers for Thursday…
