CHATHAM — Two teenage girls were arrested after police say they vandalized multiple buildings at the Columbia County Fairgrounds, causing what the fair’s general manager called “extensive” damage.
The girls, ages 15 and 16, allegedly entered several buildings on the fairgrounds around 6 p.m. June 7, spraying graffiti and damaging the interiors in other ways, though Chatham police and fair organizers did not detail the additional damage.
The Columbia County Fairgrounds, also known as the Chatham Fairgrounds, are not simply fields where tents and temporary structures are erected at festival time. More than a dozen permanent buildings are spread across the property, and the grounds host events throughout the year.
