The U.S. Coast Guard is currently investigating a helicopter crash that occurred Monday near Sitka, Alaska. According to the Coast Guard’s Arctic division, a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was involved in the incident, and first responders along with search and rescue teams are actively on the scene.
“The safety, well-being, and rescue of our crew members is our absolute, immediate priority,” the Coast Guard stated, adding that the cause of the crash remains unknown. A formal investigation will be launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
At this time, officials have not released information regarding injuries, fatalities, or the number of individuals aboard the helicopter.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a tragic helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro on June 14, which claimed the life of Oliver Tree, a 32-year-old American musician and performer known for his alt-pop hits and distinctive style. Tree was among six people who died when two helicopters collided in the western zone of the Brazilian city.
Oliver Tree’s representatives confirmed his passing through an official Instagram post, honoring his legacy and announcing the establishment of a foundation named “Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses,” which was outlined in his will. The foundation aims to promote joy, love, and art, fulfilling Tree’s final wishes.
At the time of the accident, Tree was in the midst of a world tour that began in Mexico City on May 30 and was set to cover all seven continents.
Authorities continue to investigate both incidents as they work to determine the facts surrounding these tragic events.
