Man convicted of murder, weapons charges in fatal 2022 Kalamazoo shooting

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A man is set to be sentenced for his role in a fatal 2022 shooting in Kalamazoo.

Vernon Phillip Powell, 47, was arrested after Aaron Lee Starling, 28, was shot on Portage Street on Sept. 3, 2022, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS).

Starling was taken to the hospital, but later died.
