N.Y. Weather: Flash flood watch, severe storm threat issued for Staten Island

A flood watch is in effect for Staten Island from 2 p.m. Monday through late Monday night. Heavy showers and thunderstorms will bring the potential for flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest rainfall threat is expected to develop Monday afternoon and continue through Monday night.

The National Weather Service cautioned that rainfall rates Monday afternoon could reach as high as approximately two inches per hour during the most intense parts of the storm, making flash flooding a concern, particularly in urbanized areas and locations with poor drainage…
