Nuclear siren test scheduled for July 1 near Brunswick Nuclear Plant

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Residents living near the Brunswick Nuclear Plant may hear outdoor warning sirens during a scheduled quarterly test on Wednesday, July 1.

Duke Energy, in coordination with emergency management officials in Brunswick and New Hanover counties, will conduct the test between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to ensure the warning system is operating properly.

The outdoor warning sirens, located within a 10-mile radius of the plant, will sound for between five and 30 seconds during the testing period. Officials say no action is required from the public if the sirens are heard during the scheduled test…
