LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas electric rates are making an uptick in June, reflecting the impact of a 2025 law passed by the state legislature.
The Generating Arkansas Jobs Act of 2025 retooled the relationship between electric utilities and the state’s Public Service Commission. The change most visible to electricity users was the allowance for utilities to bill for new projects while they are under construction, rather than waiting until a project was “used and useful.”

The change became visible in June for Entergy users, who saw their electric bills increase by an estimated $4.22 per month as the utility began projects to replace the state’s coal-fired power plants, which are set to retire in 2030 following a Sierra Club lawsuit.
