Arkansas Storm Team Forecast: More heat, but also more rain chances

Sunday, August 16, has been the hottest day so far this year in Little Rock. The official measuring site for the city, at the airport, measured 106 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday afternoon. It hasn’t been that hot in Little Rock since August of 2023. Today’s heat prompted an Arkansas Storm Team Alert Day to be issued for Sunday.

Thunderstorms have popped up in parts of central and northern Arkansas. A microburst possibly occurred Sunday afternoon near Pinnacle Mountain in Pulaski County, around 3:45 p.m. CDT. With additional showers and storms possible Sunday evening into the overnight, one or two could also be strong to severe. However, not everyone will see rain.

These showers and storms are moving in with a weak cold front. This front will bring some communities into the 90s for highs on Monday, August 17, in northern Arkansas, but it isn’t likely to make it through southern Arkansas…
