Plenty to do at The Library to combat summer boredom

The Springfield-Greene County Library has the answer to summer boredom. The Summer Reading Program, Unearth a Story, is in full swing. Here are some great activities in the coming weeks to keep kids busy.

Davidious the Dinosaur

Excitement awaits with Mad Science! See an underwater volcano, mini explosions and the roar of years past while hunting for the bones of Davidious the Dinosaur. For ages 5-12.

  • 10 a.m. on Monday, June 22, at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library, 397 E. Central St.
  • 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 22, at the Republic Branch Library, 921 N. Lindsey Ave.

Turn off the Lights, It’s Shadow Puppets

Bring stories to life with shadow puppets in “Who’s in Rabbit’s House?” and “Strength,” performed by Paul Vandivort. Before the shows, enjoy a short introduction to puppets, including marionettes, hand puppets and more. Watch as the animals gather to see which one is strongest and experience the magic of storytelling through shadows. For ages 3-10.

  • 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, at the Library Station, 2535 N. Kansas Expressway.
  • 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, in the Library Center Hatch Auditorium, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.*

Library Station – Shadow Puppet Workshop

With just scissors and a bit of cardstock, create your own mini menagerie of paper animals and more. Master puppeteer Paul Vandivort will guide kids in designing creations for their own shadow puppet show. For ages 6-12. Materials will be provided.

Fantastic Friday at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center

What do moles, snakes, bats, insects and badgers have in common? They all spend part of their lives underground! Help us Unearth a Story and enjoy activities, stories, crafts and more at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center, 4601 S. Nature Center Way, from 10 a.m.-noon on Friday, June 26. For ages 3 and older and their families. Bring your library card — the Mobile Library will be parked nearby.
