Man accused in Kelley, Butler killings loses 24 motions

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A judge ruled on 40 motions on Friday in the case against Tad Cullum, one of five people charged in the killing of Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley.

Cullum is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of unlawful removal of a dead body, two counts of desecration of a human corpse and one count of conspiracy.

His case is set to go before a jury in October, according to Oklahoma court documents. If he is convicted, prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty.

His lawyers filed more than 30 motions. Many of them were focused on throwing out the possibility of the death penalty.

One of the motions filed by Cullum’s legal team was to declare the death penalty as unconstitutional. Another one sought to have it declared “cruel and unusual” punishment. Both motions were denied by the court…
