ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s a well-known stretch of Albuquerque notorious for speeding, street racing, and crashes. Now, police are promising a months-long effort to crack down on drivers breaking the rules along Montgomery. “I think it’s time, and hopefully we’ll see some change,” said Vanessa Smokov with the Hodgin Neighborhood Association.

It’s the start of a summer-long Albuquerque Police Department effort on Montgomery. Something neighbors are hoping will stop fast cars, street racing, and other problems. “Every night, all hours of the night, we hear cars speeding. We’ve even heard car crashes before on the intersections of Carlisle and Comanche,” said Smokov.
Promising to keep the work going beyond July, APD said their plan to target Montgomery should be a noticeable change for people living nearby. “The Montgomery Corridor, when it comes to illegal street racing, is a hot spot and has been for years. I don’t know exactly why, other than Montgomery Boulevard goes back, it’s a historical location for cruising and street racing,” said Lt. Lawrence Monte with APD’s Traffic Division…
