Scattered storms in the forecast for Tuesday

Everyone is in need of rain and while we have a chance of scattered thunderstorms tonight and again after lunch tomorrow, we need far more than just a couple late-in-the-day-downpours. A low pressure system will move from Asheville to Norfolk, dragging a cold front across the region. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Nash, Halifax and Northampton counties until 11 p.m. as some of the pre-frontal storms progress eastward. Most will stay dry tonight before more storms arrive Tuesday afternoon.

The low will move just to our north, giving us plenty of instability but little in terms of widespread showers. We’ll take what we can get as the instability will result in developing thunderstorms as the low rolls by. Those along and north of Highway 264 will see about half an inch of rain while those south of 264 could see anywhere between 0 to 0.5″. Highs tomorrow will be varied due to the showers. Areas south of Kinston and New Bern will likely see highs reach the low 90s while those north of 264 could stay in the mid to upper 80s.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will all feature lower humidity and dry conditions. Skies will stay mostly sunny until a few more clouds try to enter the picture on Friday. Afternoon showers and storms will be back in the forecast on Saturday and Sunday with highs in the mid 90s…
