Special meeting set as Fountain Inn receives legal advice on potential sales tax referendum

The Fountain Inn City Council will hold a special called meeting Tuesday, June 23, to discuss legal advice regarding the Municipal Tax Relief Act.

The South Carolina Municipal Tax Relief Act was signed into law last month, allowing municipalities to impose a 1% sales and use tax to fund local government services. Whether the tax is imposed would be decided by voters in a referendum.

Fountain Inn officials clarified that Tuesday’s special called meeting is only to receive legal advice during executive session.
