FIRST ALERT: Brief Cool Down Ahead of Sweltering Weekend Heat

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Showers clear out Tuesday followed by a less humid and dry stretch Wednesday and Thursday. Sweltering heat and afternoon storms return by the weekend.

Tuesday – Morning Showers Clear Out

Morning showers clear out by late morning and give way to a mostly sunny sky. It’s a much cooler day in the mountains as cooler air moves in behind the cold front. Highs are only in the upper 70s. The Upstate is warmer with highs in the mid 80s, but humidity is falling through the day. It’s breezy again today with gusts 20-30 mph, well into the afternoon.

What to do: You’re good to go from late morning into the afternoon to head outside.

Wednesday & Thursday – Your Best Days

Dry high pressure takes over the region, and these two days shine for outdoor plans. Sunshine dominates from sunrise to sunset with mostly clear skies overnight. Temperatures stay comfortable Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 80s. It’s warmer on Thursday as temperatures in the Upstate soar to near 90 while the mountains settle into the mid 80s.

What to do: These are ideal days for patio time, hiking, or finally getting to that outdoor project you’ve been putting off.

This Weekend – The Heat Builds In

The pattern shifts as deeper moisture returns to the region and another weak frontal boundary approaches from the northwest.

Sunny skies give way to a few more clouds building in and afternoon thunderstorms develop by mid-to-late afternoon. Temperatures climb to the low 90s in the Upstate and the mid to upper 80s in the mountains. This kicks off the weekend on a warm note.

The weekend cranks up the heat even more with afternoon and evening thunderstorms returning. The Upstate reaches the mid-90s Saturday and Sunday, with heat indices pushing toward 100 degrees when factoring in humidity.

The mountains are a littler cooler in the upper 80s but still above normal and humid for the area. A few pop-up showers and thunderstorms are possible each afternoon as we heat things up…
