Radar outages ahead of potential severe weather this weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Sioux Falls weather radar will go offline on Wednesday for planned maintenance as the National Weather Service also deals with an unexpected radar outage that occurred in Aberdeen on June 23.

The Sioux Falls radar is scheduled to be offline for dome panel replacement and repainting. The work could take up to a week. The maintenance means the Sioux Falls Weather Service office will rely on surrounding radars while the local radar is unavailable.

Aberdeen’s radar was also down for several hours on Tuesday because of a mechanical failure, but it is now running again…
