Homeless center debate in Fort Wayne looks to Lafayette model

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – As Fort Wayne debates whether and where to build a homeless center, a similar facility in Lafayette is offering a look at what the project could mean for the Summit City.

Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker has said Lafayette’s Lafayette Transitional Housing Center is a model for what she would like to bring to Fort Wayne.

The $14 million facility opened in January 2020. It was funded in part with taxpayer dollars and includes housing units on the upper floors and a 24/7 low-barrier engagement center.
