The Cradle sells historic building, plans for smaller downtown location

Evanston adoption agency The Cradle sold its building at 2049 Ridge Ave. to architect Gabor Zsolnay on June 10 for about $3 million, the nonprofit said, but it will remain in the building for at least the next six months while searching for a new, smaller location.

“We are focusing our search on downtown Evanston,” President and CEO Jason Friedman told the RoundTable. “We feel that downtown is a little bit more accessible from a public transportation standpoint, as we think about the families we serve.”

He estimated that the nonprofit would move into a new location in early 2027. The organization negotiated an option with Zsolnay to stay at the Ridge Avenue location for up to a year, though…
