SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – After a few morning storms in Arkansas and Louisiana, we will begin a pattern change later today that will dry us out and heat us up as we head into the weekend.
A Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 p.m. The tail end of a complex of thunderstorms will be moving across Arkansas and Louisiana at sunrise, and flooding is possible in Howard, Hempstead, northern Lafayette, and Columbia counties in Arkansas, and Claiborne Parish in Louisiana. Most of the rain will be located east of Shreveport and Texarkana throughout the morning, with clouds gradually giving way to more sun as the day goes on.
High temperatures will reach the upper 80s and low 90s with high humidity pushing the heat index to around 100 degrees this afternoon. There is some uncertainty as to the extent of any thunderstorm activity this afternoon into tonight. Lingering outflow from the early day storms may trigger some development at times during the day, and another round of storms may brush a few of our counties near I-30 around sunset. A ‘Marginal Risk’ of severe weather for damaging winds is in place for these areas. An isolated severe storm is possible; widespread severe weather is not expected.
High pressure will build tomorrow, allowing hot and dry conditions to prevail through the weekend. High temperatures will climb a degree each day, sending us into the upper 90s by the end of the weekend and early next week.
Highs will consistently top the mid to upper 90s all of next week, with dry weather likely each day through at least next Wednesday. We may see a few sea breeze showers and storms return late next week as we get closer to the 4th of July.
