BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Newly obtained dashcam video shows the moments before a 16-year-old boy was approached by Battle Creek police, in a controversial confrontation now under review by the city’s Community Oversight Board.
The video, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, shows Jeremiah Spearman walking June 14 before officers detained him. It’s connected to body camera footage the Battle Creek Police Department released last week showing officers detaining the teen.
Police have said Spearman had a face covering. However, the dashcam video, like the body camera footage released so far, appears to show his face uncovered. In a police report, an officer said he noticed a “younger Black male wearing a full face covering.”…
