Kitten rescue owner & director reach plea deals in animal neglect case

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Plea deals in an animal neglect case regarding the owner and the director of Nomadic Paws Kitten Rescue were reached Wednesday morning, June 24, 2026, The City of Roanoke’s Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office told WDBJ7.

Kayla Campbell and Ian Yaeger were each found guilty of one felony count of animal cruelty and were sentenced to 5 years incarceration suspended after serving 30 days, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

The attorney’s office also told WDBJ7 the defendants are permitted to serve their sentences on weekends and that both Campbell and Yaeger are on supervised probation for two years.

The judge also ordered Campbell and Yaeger to pay restitution directly to the Roanoke City Police Department in the amount of nearly $7,000 as reimbursement for veterinary expenses incurred at Emergency Veterinary Services and $2000 directly to Angels of Assisi, the Office said. It also told WDBJ7 that each defendant will pay $4,491.41…
