The Bridge to close respite beds in Lincoln, citing funding gap

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — The Bridge will stop providing short-term respite services in Lincoln on July 1, closing six beds used for adults seeking support related to substance use and mental health.

Executive Director Ed Thornbrugh said the organization has warned about the issue since December, and that the program is ending because the reimbursement rate does not cover the cost of operating the beds.

“It’s a funding issue,” Thornbrugh said. “The organization was supporting it with contributions in addition to the day rate that we receive, and we just can’t do that any longer.”…
