Battle Ground man deemed fit to stand trial in stabbing of parents

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Washington man who fatally stabbed one of his parents and seriously injured another has been deemed fit to stand trial.

Clark County Superior Court Judge Derek Vanderwood ruled Steven Williams was mentally competent during a hearing on Tuesday. His trial in connection to the alleged first-degree murder of his father Allen Ray Williams and the first-degree attempted murder of his mother is now slated to begin on Monday, July 20.

This comes after a probable cause affidavit revealed his mother told investigators the 39-year-old man suffers from schizoaffective disorder, and “has the mentality of a 10-year-old.”
