Our attention turns to the next batch of storms that will develop upstream of us in Colorado and Wyoming this evening. This activity will track into our northwest counties by 10 PM. A storm or two may be severe into the overnight for damaging winds and larger hail.
A tornado cannot be ruled out especially to the northwest early in the night.
This will blossom into another complex of heavy rain that will track over much of the state into Thursday morning. Flooding is a continued possibility, and a new Flood Watch has been posted over most of our viewing area through Friday morning.
Thursday morning’s activity is set to spawn an outflow boundary that could become a real problem by Thursday evening. Depending on its location, new thunderstorms will develop in the vicinity of this feature later in the day.
All forms of severe weather are possible, including large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes. The highest tornado probabilities are along the Oklahoma state line, including the Wichita Metro.
Additional rainfall will be quite heavy and only encourage additional flooding in spots that have already experienced this issue this week.
Another round of storms is possible by Friday evening into the overnight from western through southern Kansas. A storm or two could become severe with damaging winds and hail. Temperatures will be kept cooler than average with a juiced-up atmosphere across the entire state. We are all feeling the mugginess until the weekend. The page turns and the heat builds into the region. Winds will also increase and could gust from 35-45 MPH. Rain chances drop as highs climb through the 90s and triple digits into early next week. Humidity values will drop over the west and remain higher east of I-135. Hotter temperatures that favor closer to the century mark will align west of I-135 into next week. Due to higher humidity values east of this interstate, afternoon temperatures will not be as high. Depending on where a front sits next week, or the summer ring of fire, renewed chances for thunderstorms will develop over portions of northwest Kansas. Areas farther southeast look to remain dry.
