The Avondale City Council recently adopted its primary and secondary property tax levy for fiscal year 2027. According to Finance Director Renee Weatherless, the city will not increase the primary property tax rate.
“We are not increasing the primary property tax rate, so there was no truth-in-taxation hearing this year,” she said. “The (primary) levy — which is the total amount that’s collected for the primary property tax — is increasing only by the growth, or the new construction.”
For fiscal year 2027 the property tax rate will remain the same at roughly $1.45 per $100 — including a primary tax levy of .5813 and secondary tax levy of .8779. While the primary tax levy is used to fund general city operations, the secondary tax levy is used specifically for repaying bond principal and interest. Weatherless said that historically, the combined property tax rate has remained below the maximum outlined by the city’s financial policy of $2.
