Longtime Capital Region prosecutor dies after motorcycle crash

ALBANY — David Gonzalez, a longtime lawyer who once worked as an assistant district attorney in two Capital Region counties, died when his motorcycle crashed Wednesday evening.

In a Thursday news release, Albany police said it appeared Gonzalez was traveling north on Route 9 when he lost control of his motorcycle, was thrown off, and struck a nearby guardrail. Police said the crash happened just north of the Northern Boulevard overpass. Responding officers found Gonzalez with “serious traumatic injuries” around 6:40 p.m. before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gonzalez was working as senior deputy general counsel for the New York State Department of State. Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley said in a statement that the department is “deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss” of Gonzalez…
