Maine man suspected of attempted murder arrested in Guilderland

GUILDERLAND — A man from Maine who allegedly stole a car and stabbed its owner was arrested in Guilderland.

Abel Perez, 37, of Bangor, Maine, was found by Guilderland police on Monday after a license plate reader flagged the Toyota SUV he was driving as stolen, according to a news release from the Guilderland Police Department. Police stopped the car near Western Avenue and Carman Road and arrested Perez “without incident,” the department said.

Police investigated and found that the vehicle had been stolen from a home in Bangor, Maine, on Saturday. In the process of stealing the vehicle, Perez is also accused of stabbing the car’s owner, leaving the person with critical injuries, police said…
