ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Drivers heading out for Independence Day travel could see some relief at the pump compared with earlier this year, but prices remain historically high for the holiday.
The national average price of gasoline is expected to fall to around $3.75 per gallon on Saturday, July 4, according to a new GasBuddy report. This would be the second-most expensive average gas price on record for Independence Day. The all-time high was $4.80 per gallon in 2022, caused largely by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and continued recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Per GasBuddy, the national average gas price on Independence Day over the last five years was as follows:
- 2025: $3.10 per gallon
- 2024: $3.49 per gallon
- 2023: $3.46 per gallon
- 2022: $4.80 per gallon
- 2021: $3.12 per gallon
Although the projected $3.75 average is a significant decrease from gas prices in May, it still marks a 65-cent increase from last year’s Independence Day average of $3.10, GasBuddy reports…
