University of Michigan warns against the dangers of the ‘looksmaxxing’ trend

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WLUC) – The University of Michigan is getting the word out regarding the dangers of the new trend known as “Looksmaxxing”.

Looksmaxxing is a trend that advocates extreme measures to try and create a standard beauty ideal for yourself. An example U of M warned about was taking a hammer to your jaw to create microfractures.

U of M Health Executive Director of the Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program Dr. Terrill Bravender says the trend is similar to ads that try to make the viewer feel bad about themselves and want to change their appearance.
