Lincoln Children’s Zoo Mourns Loss of Beloved Bobcat

The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is mourning the loss of one of its longtime residents. Zoo officials announced Thursday the passing of Zeus, a bobcat who spent more than 19 years at the zoo and became a favorite among staff and visitors.

At more than 24 years old, Zeus was the oldest bobcat living in an Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoo. Officials say his long life was a reflection of the care and dedication from the team members who looked after him.

Zoo staff say as Zeus aged, he developed arthritis that was treated by the zoo’s veterinary team. But in recent months, the condition progressed and began affecting his mobility and quality of life. After careful observation and discussions, the zoo made the decision to humanely euthanize Zeus…
