CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte’s only historically Black college or university, has entered phase two of its accreditation probation as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges demands stronger financial controls and emergency reserves.
SACSCOC placed JCSU on a 12-month probation in 2025 for good cause. The accrediting agency is now requiring the university to continue building its emergency operating fund and strengthen policies involving governmental grants and financial aid.
President Valerie Kinloch said the university implemented more than 19 new policies to improve compliance with grant and financial aid handling. She said JCSU did its best to exit probation this year but ran out of time…
