This Ohio high school principal found a way to keep students showing up — and readers are taking notice

Regarding Columbia High School (CHS) Principal Brian Siftar June 17 commentary on his school’s efforts to decrease absenteeism (“Chronic school absenteeism is a national crisis. Ohio can help solve it“):

How refreshing to read about a project or method that truly works to keep our students involved and engaged in student life and their education. The soft skills these students are learning appeals to them, while teaching them the vital skills we know many of this generation are lacking.

We can only hope that many other schools start to embrace these principles and arm their students with these same lifelong skills, including to manage controversy and adversity, and the ability to verbally communicate with their peers and employers. This ensures entry into a more stable and fulfilling social and financial environment for each student and their future families…
