Housing for adults with mental illness planned at this Staten Island facility

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York plans to bring single-room-occupancy housing to part of the South Beach Psychiatric Center, the Advance/SILive.com learned Monday.

A request for proposals the state Office of Mental Health published in October sought a service provider for a one-acre section of the 51-acre property to operate a 51-unit single-room-occupancy community residence for persons recovering from a serious mental illness.
