Flooding causes road closures across south-central Kansas

Heavy rain and thunderstorms led to flooding and multiple road closures across south-central Kansas early Friday, with several highways affected by high water.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 35 in Sumner County were temporarily shut down after floodwaters covered the roadway but have since reopened. Drivers in the area are still encountering other closures, including K-55 near Belle Plaine, where flooding continues to make travel unsafe.

According to transportation officials, U.S. 81 north of Wellington has also been closed due to flooding. In Wichita, heavy rainfall left numerous vehicles stalled on flooded streets overnight, creating hazardous driving conditions throughout the city…
