BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Rensselaer man has received the maximum sentence after a bench trial in connection to a road rage assault in Moreau. The Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office said Matthew Blanding was sentenced to seven years in prison.

On April 7, 2025, Blanding allegedly followed a woman three miles to her parents home after a traffic dispute. He then reportedly attacked the victim with a large glass jar, forced her to the ground, choked her, and punched her in the face. Blanding then allegedly tried to drag her down the road while he was driving away.
The District Attorney’s Office said the victim suffered serious facial injuries from the assault. After the bench trial, Blanding was found guilty of second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and third-degree assault.
