BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham families are facing a summer with fewer public pools than city leaders said would open, even after the city approved Mayor Randall L. Woodfin’s $1.5 million for pool repairs and upgrades as part of his $31.8 million surplus spending plan.
The City Council approved the plan in April, which included investments in Woodfin’s Cradle to Career initiative, public infrastructure, neighborhoods and the city’s human rights legacy. The surplus plan also included $1.5 million specifically for Birmingham Park and Recreation pool repairs and upgrades.
