Former Detroit golf course becomes 98-acre nature park

DETROIT, MI – Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield celebrated the transformation of a closed golf course into a park for Detroit residents Monday night.

The opening of the 98-acre Rogell Park features a .83-mile paved path, four scenic overlooks and multiple boardwalks on land that operated as Rogell Golf Course until early 2013. The city re-acquired the property in 2018 after a planned private development fell through.

“Healthy, vibrant cities offer exceptional greenspaces and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout their communities, and the beautiful new Rogell Park offers something new and special for residents in northwest Detroit,” Sheffield said. “Not only will this new park promote resident quality of life and environmental health, it also will add to home values in surrounding neighborhoods.”…
