The Tennessee Lookout won 11 awards at Thursday’s Tennessee Press Association, including five first-place wins.
The awards, sponsored in conjunction with the University of Tennessee, recognize the top journalism in the state. Winners were selected from more than 1,000 individual entries.
The Lookout took home a first-place award for Public Service Journalism for a package of news stories about the Memphis Safe Task Force, the joint federal and state agencies crackdown in Memphis established by President Donald Trump; The Debt, a series of stories on persistent underfunding of Tennessee State University reported in conjunction with WPLN Nashville Public Radio; and an investigative series examining how state leaders created legislation that benefits payday lender Advance Financial…
