Now that’s a water hazard: Flooding closes all 4 Wichita municipal golf courses

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The City of Wichita closed all four of its municipal golf courses Friday due to flooding.

The city operates four courses across the community that include Arthur B. Sim, Auburn Hills, MacDonald, and Tex Consolver golf courses. All four courses experienced extensive flooding, with some sections completely impassible.

Heavy rains that began Thursday evening dropped 3 to 6 inches across the Wichita area, prompting a flash flood emergency to be issued by the National Weather Service. Many in Wichita were woken up to the sound of EAS alerts going off on their cell phones.

The heavy rains also forced officials to delay today’s round of the Wichita Open until Friday afternoon.

Golf Wichita said it would provide updates on when they could expect to reopen. It’s not known yet if the flooding has caused any significant damage to the courses…
