Tina Peters defends actions at Castle Rock rally, says supporters ‘are my heroes’

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KDVR) — Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters is back in the public spotlight just 25 days after being released from prison, speaking Friday to a packed crowd at the Rocky Mountain Voice Freedom Festival.

Hundreds of supporters filled the fairgrounds building and gave Peters a standing ovation as she took the stage, where she spent about 25 minutes thanking allies, defending her actions, and revisiting her prison experience.

“Thank you. You’re my heroes,” Peters told the crowd, referring to supporters who she said prayed for and financially backed her during her legal battle.

Peters was convicted in a case tied to unauthorized access involving election equipment. In her remarks, she maintained she acted properly and pushed back on allegations surrounding her conduct.

“I didn’t have an unauthorized person in there. I was elected by the people,” Peters said. “I had an authorized person that has preserved the election records that are required by federal law.”…
