GARRETSON, S.D. (KELO) — As firework stands pop up across the region, many families are stocking up on their favorite July traditions. In this morning’s Flashback Friday, KELOLAND’s Marla Newman takes us back to 1987 for a look at one small-town fireworks business built on family and community.
You might say it has a country town flair. Oh, it’s small and quaint, but this firework stand on the outskirts of Garretson has a 17-year story to tell.Mama Ruby Julson is slowly retiring from the business, but not without leaving it in the hands of family and taking years of memories with her.
“Bev was nine years old when we started, so in between watching the kids in the stand kept us busy.”
