Former WNC chief deputy accused of giving inmate drugs, alcohol, and AR-15

MADISON COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) — A former chief deputy with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office is accused of pointing a gun at detention center employees, giving an inmate an AR-15-style rifle, and forcing that inmate to perform labor at his home, newly unsealed indictment documents revealed.

According to county records, Bronis Coy Phillips, 42, who previously served as second-in-command at the sheriff’s office, remains jailed on a $1.5 million bond.
