Nebraska- A new report from the Employment Policies Institute claims Nebraska has experienced the nation’s largest increase in teen unemployment ever since Initiative 433, which raised the state’s minimum wage, was approved.
According to the report, Nebraskas’ teen unemployment rate had increased from 3.81% in May 2023 to 9.35% in May 2026. This report comes as Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers and the City of Lincoln prepare for a court battle over Lincoln’s minimum wage ordinance.
Earlier this year, state lawmakers approved a $13.50 per hour minimum wage for teen workers with annual increases of 1.75%, while Lincoln adopted a $15 per hour minimum wage for all workers within the city, with future increases tied to inflation…
