Boat collision in Lake Michigan claims life of young athlete

A crash in Lake Michigan, involving two boats carrying fourteen passengers, killed one woman and injured four others Thursday night just before midnight.

“Two vessels were coming back into port, we are not exactly sure if they were both coming back in here to Monroe Harbor or Burnham Harbor. One vessel overtook another one and there was a collision that happened,” said Jason Lach, the Deputy District Chief of Marine and Dive Operations for the Chicago Fire Department.

According to our Nexstar affiliate in Chicago, WGN-TV, the person killed was identified as 26-year-old Johanna Gregory, a former student athlete at Gannon University.
