2 adults die after rescue from Hillsboro house fire

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) —Two people rescued during a house fire in Hillsboro earlier this week have died, authorities announced on Saturday.

Two rescued from burning Hillsboro house with life-threatening injuries

Hillsboro Fire & Rescue officials said crews responded to the house fire on the 1700 block of Southeast Oak Street on Thursday afternoon. They were informed that two people were stuck inside and smoke was visible from a distance.

When fire units arrived, they said the smoke and fire conditions were coming from the second floor of the home. They were able to extinguish the fire but called for backup due to its nature and hazardous conditions, including an attached deck beginning to collapse and the vegetation near the house.

Officials previously said the two people rescued from the home, only identified as adults at that time, had had life-threatening injuries from the fire and were taken to local hospitals, where they succumbed to their injuries.“Hillsboro Fire & Rescue extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who died,” the agency said in a statement. “Our firefighters, alongside our partner agencies, worked diligently to rescue both individuals from the home, and this loss is felt deeply across our department and community.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to officials. No other details have been released.
