Chenango County attorney arrested after trying to flee the country

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. — After failing to comply with a court order that prohibited leaving the United States, a Baldwinsville man who is an attorney in Chenango County, has been arrested and charged. 41-year-old Donatello Lazarati was charged with bail jumping in the second degree, according to the New York State Police Department.

Originally, on June 23, Lazarati was arrested for grand larceny in the third degree. This is a class D felony. At this time, he had worked for the Assigned Counsel Program in Chenango County. State Police believe Lazarati had submitted duplicate billing to Chenango County for the same legal services and accepted payment. According to Police, this cost the county $4,700.

On June 24, he was arraigned at the Chenango County Jail. This is where he was ordered by the Judge to not leave the country. Lazarati’s passport would also need to be surrendered by June 26…
