White County Citizen wins 27 awards in Arkansas Press Association contest, including 12 for first

The White County Citizen won 27 awards in the Arkansas Press Association Better Newspaper Contest on Saturday, including General Excellence in its division and 11 other first-place finishes.

The awards luncheon was held at the Inn of the Ozarks in Eureka Springs. The Missouri Press Association judged 1,280 entries from APA members. The Citizen competed in the smaller newspaper category based on circulation size. There were no separate daily and weekly divisions this year.

Staff writer Greg Geary claimed 12 awards, including four for first place. He won in Arkansas Freedom of Information Reporting (in a combined category for newspapers less than 1,200 and smaller newspapers) for a DWI arrest story about former Beebe Court Clerk Jennifer Latture, Beat Reporter for coverage of law enforcement, Education Story with “Robotics teams up to challenge” and Single Sports Feature Photo with “No smooth ride.”…
