Katy Perry’s scheduled headline performance at Belgium’s Werchter Boutique festival was canceled just hours before showtime due to severe weather warnings, prompting officials to call off the outdoor event for safety reasons.

The 41-year-old pop star took to Instagram to apologize to her fans, expressing her regret over the cancellation and emphasizing that the decision was out of her hands. “Sadly my set @WerchterBoutique tonight can’t happen due to a government mandated cancellation because of the incoming inclement weather and crowd safety concerns,” Perry wrote. She shared that she was backstage, in the middle of hair and makeup, when she received the news and was given no option but to comply.

Perry added, “I am just as unhappy as you are. Unfortunately this is beyond my control, but the safety of all 55,000 of you always comes first and foremost.

I am sorry I can’t change the weather, and even sorrier that all of us can’t be together tonight.” She also noted her excitement about returning to the festival after 17 years and mentioned she had planned to wear the same outfit from her 2009 appearance.

This would have marked Perry’s first performance at Festivalpark Werchter since July 2009, when she appeared at the Rock Werchter festival during her debut solo tour, following the release of her breakthrough album “One of the Boys.”

In her post, Perry shared a backstage photo showing her seated in a white robe with her unused stage costume hanging nearby. Her 90-minute closing set was scheduled to begin at 10 p.m., following Pitbull’s performance.

The festival’s official statement explained the early shutdown: “Following consultation with the Rock Werchter safety committee, it has been decided that Werchter Boutique will end at 9 p.m. this evening.” The decision came in response to forecasts predicting severe thunderstorms from midnight onward, along with a BE-Alert issued by the governor of Flemish Brabant. The statement stressed that ending the festival early would allow for a safe and orderly exit for attendees, prioritizing everyone’s health and safety.

This cancellation comes shortly after Perry’s recent appearance at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Los Angeles, where she performed her new 2024 single “Wonder” alongside young Norwegian singer Tius. Perry’s boyfriend, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, was present to support her during the event. The couple, who went public with their relationship in December 2025, were seen enjoying the United States’ opening match victory.

Perry also recently released a new single, “Watch It Burn,” and continues her European tour with upcoming festival appearances and solo concerts. Her next scheduled performance is a headline concert at DEPOT Live at Cardiff Castle in Wales.
