CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Charleston fell 7-5 in a tight matchup with the Augusta Green Jackets Saturday night.
Augusta got runners across with three runs in the top of the first, but the RiverDogs responded with an early rally. Brady Marget drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first after the first three batters all reached base to make it 3-1 before a Larry Martinez RBI single cut the lead to 3-2. Angel Mateo and JD Gonzalez both hit ground outs to bring in two more runs to make it 4-3 Charleston heading into the second inning.
Augusta quickly leveled the score at 4-4 in the second and retook the lead in the third at 5-4. The Green Jackets scored another in the seventh to push the lead to 6-4, but Charleston responded in the bottom of the frame when Nicandro Aybar scored off of an errant pickoff attempt to make it 6-5. Augusta tacked on another run to push the lead to 7-5 in the top of the ninth and the RiverDogs were unable to rally…
